Puigdemont criticizes Llarena at the CGPJ for delaying his appeal for amnesty

Date:

She believes that the judge “committed a disciplinary offence” because he “far exceeded” and “repeatedly failed to comply with” the statutory time limit provided for in the Criminal Procedure Act.

Carles Puigdemont, through his lawyer, has filed a complaint with the CGPJ against Supreme Court magistrate Pablo Llarena for “the inattention and unjustified and repeated delay” in the processing and resolution of the appeals, given his decision not to apply the amnesty.

On July 1, Llarena refused to forgive the crime of embezzlement that he attributes to Puigdemont and former ministers Toni Comín and Lluis Puig and agreed to keep the national arrest warrants in force, a decision that was appealed by the defense, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office a week later.

In the document, to which EFE has had access, lawyer Gonzalo Boye considers that the judge “committed a disciplinary offence” because he “far exceeded” and “repeatedly failed to comply” with the legal deadline established in the Criminal Procedure Act for the resolution of the reform cases, which must be resolved by the judge himself, whom he accuses of his “deliberate inaction”.

According to Puigdemont’s lawyer, taking into account the dates on which the reform requests were submitted, “they should have been resolved more than a month ago”, in the first half of July, something that did not happen “without any apparent reason that justifies it.”

Furthermore, he considers that “the circumstances are particularly serious” because the amnesty law must be subject to preferential and urgent treatment, which affects the appeals filed, especially when the judge’s resolutions include restrictions on the freedom of movement of Puigdemont and the rest of the suspects.
