The fact that Herbert Kickl’s FPÖ does not exactly keep its distance from Russian ruler Vladimir Putin led to a humorous disruption during the ORF “Summer Talk”. At the Traunsee, activists of the Wandelpartij unfolded a poster with the inscription ‘From Putin with love’.
‘From Russia with Love’ is not only the original title of the James Bond film ‘With Love from Moscow’, it also formed the basis for the humorous inscription on the poster that activists at the Traunsee used to celebrate the ORF ‘summer talk’ of FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl wanted to interrupt.
The Wandel party, which is participating in the National Council elections under the name NO, subsequently posted the video of the disruptive action:
The blue misery with Russia
The protest, which was directed against the repeated criticism of several FPÖ officials about the EU sanctions as a result of the war in Ukraine, was not shown on ORF. Only moderator Martin Thür briefly addressed it with one sentence: “I think someone is trying to disrupt the broadcast,” he said, before asking the FPÖ leader his final questions.
The Freedom Party’s proximity to Russia has repeatedly led to discontent, even among its own party base. High-ranking Blue Party politicians have visited Russia on several occasions, and Kickl and others have repeatedly railed against EU sanctions.
In the ‘Summer Talk’ itself, Kickl behaved in a decidedly statesmanlike manner. He only got going a little when it came to Corona, but was extremely reserved when it came to migration and asylum. The FPÖ leader was particularly critical of the economic policies of the previous government parties.
