The Lehendakari of the Basque government, Imanol Pradalesand the President of the Government of Navarre, Maria Chivitewill meet today in Pamplona, in the first contact between the two leaders since the former took office in June.
The situation of Economic consultation and agreementFinancing models for both communities will be one of the topics to be discussed by the two presidents, given the agreement for unique financing for Catalonia.
Also on the agenda for the day will be high-speed train connection between the Basque Autonomous Community and the Foral Community of Navarre, as announced yesterday Maria Ubarretxenaspokesman for the Basque executive.
There are two alternatives to connect the TAV between both communities: via Vitoria-Gasteiz or via Ezkio-Itsaso (Gipuzkoa). The provincial councils of Álava and Gipuzkoa do not agree on which connection to choose, despite both being chaired by the PNV, in a government formula with the PSE-EE.
Ubarretxena stressed yesterday that it is necessary “to have all the reports in order not to make mistakes in the decision that has to be taken.” Previously, both Pradales and Chivite have placed the final decision, which must be taken by both executives together with the Spanish government, on having all the technical reports available, especially on the connection via Ezkio-Itsaso, which would entail higher costs and would affect the Sierra from Aralar.
In addition, Pradales and Chivite will also assess the review cooperation protocol signed by the two governments in 2021, on issues such as health, employment, housing, equality, language policy, youth, education and security. Recently, the two leaders signed an agreement to guarantee the spread of EITB in Navarra.
The Basque Government spokesman referred to “a special relationship characterised by a historical, cultural, linguistic and social bond”, which also share a “cooperation model” that has led them to the creation and development of various organisations and to participation in forums such as a Euroregion, the Pyrenees Working Commission or the Atlantic Arc Commission.
With the first meeting between Pradales and Chivite they intend to “deepen future collaboration”, since relations between both communities of Hego Euskal Herria “have always been good and will continue to be good.”
