BVT spy affair – Ott’s client fled to Dubai

Date:

Although he was already in the crosshairs of the judiciary, the ‘contact person and client’ for ex-BVT chief inspector Egisto Ott went to Dubai. Ex-Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek is said to have helped Martin Weiss with this. Weiss had confessed that he had ordered Ott to check personal information.

These cases occurred between late 2018 and 2020. Just two days after his arrest, on January 24, 2021, Weiss was released. He promised to be available for further questioning and to respond to subpoenas. However, he did not adhere to that.

Instead, he went to Dubai – with the support of former Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek. It is believed that he now works for Russia’s domestic secret service FSB. “I have just been able to evacuate my Austrian husband to Dubai. That was quite an adventure too. We were afraid that they would arrest him again at the airport,” Marsalek wrote on February 22, 2021 to the head of a Russian spy cell.

The espionage continued
From Dubai, Weiss is said to have gathered information for Marsalek and given work assignments to Egisto Ott. He was safe in the United Arab Emirates because there is no extradition treaty with the country and an international arrest warrant would only be symbolic.

Nevertheless, the Public Prosecution Service for Economic and Corruption (WKStA) has opened an investigation into him and other former BVT officials for abuse of office. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Combating of Terrorism (BVT) is alleged to have housed a Syrian state security general in Austria for the Israeli foreign secret service Mossad and granted him asylum – without him meeting the requirements. The general is also said to be partly responsible for torturing opponents of the Syrian regime.

Do not undergo a procedure in Vienna
Operation ‘White Milk’ was heard from April 14, 2023 at the Vienna Regional Court. Weiss did not submit to the procedure, citing postoperative complaints and poor mental health, for which a forensic pathologist found insufficient evidence. The other officers were eventually acquitted. Weiss should no longer be available.
