A staff that causes a commotion in Vienna: Minister of Finance Markus Marterbauer (Spö) of Spö has nominated Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) for a directorate post at the European Investment Bank (EIB). The former government head could start a new career in the European financial world.
The former Minister of Finance and ÖVP -Baas Wilhelm Molterer had moored earlier after his political career at the EIB. As the Ministry of Finance confirmed, Nehammer should now follow more Molterer on the position of vice president of the EIB.
The management committee of nine members is in turn loaded by the EU member states. And at the moment a nomination is falling again. In De Spö, the “Kurier” was told that Nehammer was destined for the job, mainly because of his political experience at European level.
Responsible for important investments
The European Investment Bank (EIB) works closely with the other EU institutions. It knows, among other things, climate protection and ecological sustainability, digitization and technological innovation, safety and defense, agriculture and bio -economy and social infrastructure to promote European integration.
The EIB is not an organ of the European Union, but a “financial special institution next to the organs”. It is therefore not linked to instructions from the committee or parliament, but consults them.
