“Surprised” by the commotion that has arisen around the TAV, the general deputy of Gipuzkoa has stressed that “from the beginning” the position of the Basque government and the provincial council of Gipuzkoa has been the same. “From all points of view, Ezkio is the most effective option.”
The coupling of High-speed train (TAV) between the CAV and Navarra has been one of the focal points of current Basque politics in recent days, and several leaders have hinted that there could be differences in the positions of the institutions, a controversy that the Deputy General wanted to settle today. Gipuzkoa, Eider MendozaOnce again, he has categorically stated that “from all points of view” the “most effective” option is that of Ezkio-Itsaso, and to reaffirm his position, he has once again recalled the Basque Government’s 2018 accusation report, which compares the two options and opts for the one in Gipuzkoa.
Interviewed within Euskadi IrratiaReferring to the statements of Lehendakari Imanol Pradales, clarified that “what the Basque government said is that we will be decisive because it is a strategic project for this country.” “That the Spanish government has not had the time or the talent to draw up reports so far? That cannot be an excuse. We will make the decision when there are reports on the table. That is the position (…) different readings may have been made, but the bet is Ezkio. The Lehendakari pointed out that the road network through Vitoria risks becoming saturated.
After denouncing that the “huge delays” occurring in the TAV works are “intolerable”, he asked the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Transport to draw up the technical reports as soon as possible, because in this matter “the technical laziness in the preparation of the reports is not acceptable.
On the other hand, he also referred to the tax reform which, as he has made clear, is one of the “greatest challenges” that the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council has on the table in this term. In this sense, he has been “optimistic” and believes that they will be able to reach “consensus” with all parties. He has assured that “the comprehensive welfare of all Gipuzkoans” will mark the axis of future budgetary policy. “We consider it realistic to reach consensus with all parties, both with EH Bildu and with the PP. The reality is that society is asking us all for changes.”
In this sense, he announced that they were starting to make “discreet” contacts to finalize next year’s budgets before the summer. “The contacts are not limited to the 2025 budgets, but to strategic projects for the entire legislature and of course to taxes.”
Finally, he referred to the steps taken in recent months at the Hondarribia Alarde, where Jaizkibel will parade for the first time as a company. “There is a will to calm the situation and for us that is positive.”
