After Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) resigned as a result of the Brucknerhaus scandal, the public prosecutor’s office is now investigating him. The Linz prosecutor confirmed on Wednesday that an investigation into the case had been launched.
The Public Prosecution Service therefore has initial suspicions that the former mayor of Linz may have misused public funds.
The Luger affair spread widely
It was said that the police had been ordered to investigate what had happened and to obtain the necessary documents. Then the suspects and any informants will be questioned.
Luger announced his resignation almost two weeks ago. Three days earlier, he had admitted that as mayor he had sent “general” questions about the Brucknerhaus to Dietmar Kerschbaum, now the former artistic director, before his hearing.
Luger denied this for months and even had an expert look for the leak that gave the information. The Luger affair spread widely and SPÖ leader Andreas Babler felt compelled to speak out.
