Shortly after the televised duel, US Vice President Kamala Harris challenged her Republican opponent Donald Trump to a second debate. “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is it Donald Trump?” her campaign team asked.
“Under the spotlight, Americans could see the choice they face in the fall: move forward with Kamala Harris or move back with Trump. “That’s what they saw tonight, and what they should see during a second debate in October,” Harris’ campaign said.
Heated exchange of blows in the first debate
In Philadelphia, Harris and Trump came to blows in their first televised duel on Wednesday night CEST. Before the spectacle, the two teams had been arguing about dates for TV debates and the rules during the duel in Philadelphia.
Standing alone on the debate stage with Trump, without a cheat sheet or other prop, was a test for the 59-year-old Harris that she passed. She appeared confident, spoke slowly, formulated clear messages, didn’t hesitate, didn’t let Trump throw her off, and made plenty of verbal attacks without violating any rules of decency.
CNN poll sees Harris as the winner
In a snap CNN poll, 63 percent of respondents saw her as the winner — compared to just 37 percent for Trump. The success is significant for Harris, as the Republican clearly won the Trump-Biden contest. No date has been set for a second contest before the Nov. 5 presidential election.
Taylor Swift Wants to Vote for Harris
American pop star Taylor Swift wants to vote for Democrat Kamala Harris in the US presidential election. Harris is a “talented leader” and stands up for rights and causes that require a “warrior,” Swift wrote Tuesday night in an Instagram post published shortly after the end of the vice president’s TV debate with former President Donald Trump Post. “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the presidential election,” the singer said.
