Due to the Gaza conflict: – Canada stops supplying weapons to Israel

Date:

The Canadian government has halted dozens of arms shipments to Israel. Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Tuesday she had ordered a review of all contracts between Canadian arms suppliers and Israel and other countries.

“As a result, I suspended approximately 30 existing export permits for Canadian companies this summer,” the minister said. According to the information, the approvals were issued before Canada imposed an export ban in January.

The government decided at the time to stop supplying weapons to Israel that could also be used in the war in the Gaza Strip. “Our policy is clear: we will ensure that no weapons or weapon parts of any kind are sent to the Gaza Strip. Period,” Joly said on Tuesday.

The export ban also affects a shipment of ammunition that was to be manufactured for Israel by the Canadian branch of the American defense company General Dynamics. The Canadian government is in contact with General Dynamics, Joly said.
