Although it is a priority or important for the PNV, EH Bildu and Sumar, the PSE warns that it will not change the status, but the Statute, and the PP does not want the CAV’s relationship with the state to change.
The negotiations on the new Statute or political status that the Basque parties will hold during the talks that will begin at the initiative of the PNV have focused the debate on the first programme of the new parliamentary season on Radio Euskadi Waves.
The spokesperson of PNV In the Basque Parliament, Joseba Díez Antxustegi assured that her group wants to “lead the round of contacts together”, “knowing that Basque society is pluralistic and diverse”.
“We know that Basque society is pluralistic and diverse and that we must be able to reach the broadest possible consensus in order to give the most accurate and concrete response possible to that diversity and plurality of society,” he added.
Díez Antxustegi also recalled that Euskadi is the only Community that has not reformed its Statute of Autonomy and that it is necessary to adapt the Autonomous Charter “to the new times to solve the problems of this country”.
The parliamentarian of EH Picture Nerea Kortajarena has indicated that the debate on the new status is of “highest priority”, and wonders whether the PNV will allow the PSE, its government partner, to “limit the national aspirations of this country.”

Furthermore, he warned that of the 75 parliamentarians in the Basque Chamber, 55 are sovereigntists and that “they group around the idea that we are a nation, that we have the right to decide.” “The conversation must be around that and around the need to establish a new relationship with the state,” he said.
The parliamentarian of PSE-EEEkain Rico has warned that in the debate on self-government, it is about achieving “a new statute, not a new status.” “Let us use the language correctly, otherwise we will generate frustrations,” he added.
“These agreements must be given in accordance with our powers and current legislation and this is stated in black and white in the coalition agreement. And these are the rules of the game that the majority of this government has decided,” he stressed.
For his part, the parliamentarian of PP Alvaro Gotxi has warned that his formation will not participate in the debate on the future of Basque self-government if it is about “changing the relationship with the state through a new statute.”
The parliamentarian of AddJon Hernández has assured that the reform of the Statute of Autonomy is an “important issue, even if it is not a priority”, and has opted for an autonomous charter that also serves “to try to put an end to the privileges that still exist in society.”
