Hardly any trust – violent blow to all of Austria’s policies

Date:

A recent survey shows an all-time low: only 18 percent trust the government and only 22 percent trust the opposition.

Some blows feel like uppercuts. Just like the current one for Austrian politics: according to the current survey, only 18 percent trust the government. It is a historic low. This is what pollster Christoph Haselmayer and his team from the Institute for Public Opinion and Data Analysis (IFDD) gathered in a representative survey for the “Krone”. In the Sunday question, turquoise/green would only get 30 percent.

Small consolation to Nehammer, Kogler and Co.: The suffering of others may not be their joy, but it is not without it either. According to the survey, the opposition cannot take advantage of the collapsing form of the coalition. Only 22 percent are very satisfied or satisfied with the policies of the opposition parties. IFDD boss Haselmayer: “A resounding slap in the face of all politics.”

Government wants to continue until 2024
There will be no consolation for the opposition until 2024. That’s how long the government wants to continue with staccato-style protests, despite all the crises and disagreements. According to Haselmayer, dissatisfaction with inflation, the war in Ukraine and Corona, etc. is greater than ever.

The survey will take place from 7 to 11 June. Just before the announcement of the anti-inflation package. Would the result be different now? “At least one to two percentage points better. People are often deterred and do not feel the planned measures yet.”

New moves can have good chances
Noteworthy: The weaknesses of the established open up space for new ones. Platforms with people from politics, science, business and society – where ex-chancellor Christian Kern, constitutional lawyer Heinz Mayer or actress Katharina Stemberger were asked about – currently have great opportunities. According to the survey, 45 percent would like it, and 92 percent of them would vote for it.

Just an idea, of course. But one with potential. Haselmayer: “Founding an impartial movement would be tantamount to destroying the political landscape.”
