PNV and EH Bildu join forces to demand the right to decide and a bilateral relationship with the Spanish state

PP and PSE-EE voted against the transactional motions of the nationalist groups, and Elkarrekin Podemos abstained.

The groups of PNV And EH Picture of the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa have carried out two transactional movements – Motion on Basque self-government and Motion on the new bilateral relationship and the new political status – in which they request that the new status also include the right to decide of the Basque people and demands a bilateral relationship with the Spanish state. The proposals have received the support of both parties, the vote against the PSE-EE and the PP, and the abstention of Elkarrekin Podemos.

The motions approved in the second session of the Plenary meeting general policy The Provincial Chamber of Gipuzkoa, held this Wednesday during the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa, reaffirmed that the modernization of Basque self-government “must include a renewal and adaptation of our powers to the current demands and needs of Basque society.”

In his speech the PNV member said Ianko Gamboa has highlighted the agreement reached with EH Bildu on self-government and a new political status for Euskadi. As he noted, “modernizing self-government must focus on completing the current Statute, restoring the limited powers and expanding the framework of powers to fully guarantee the political, social, economic, linguistic and cultural rights of Basque citizens.”

So did the board member of EH Bildu Estitxu Elduaien considers it “essential” that the provincial chamber of Guipuzco “sends a clear message about the right to decide in the Basque Country, which corresponds to what the vast majority of citizens share.” Elduaien stressed the need to “recognize the uniqueness of the issues and to put in place a system of guarantees so that the Spanish state does not have a veto.”

On his part, Arritxu Marañonof the PSE-EE, has stated that his party defends a “new statute yes, new status no”. In this sense, he explained that the Socialists ‘believe’ in the Statute and its development, but ‘always under the established norms and legality’. “It is not worth asking for a majority to govern and have stability and at the same time looking for another majority that can focus on identity issues”, added the spokesman of Elkarrekin Podemos, despite abstaining from the vote. Look at Echevestehas defended that “deepening democracy and the right to decide will always be the goal” of his formation. “The people must speak, and the people must always have their sovereignty,” he insisted.

Finally, the PP spokesman said, Mikel Lezamahas asked PNV and EH Bildu “not to drag this institution and the future of Gipuzkoa, pluralistic and diverse, down such an anachronistic and unproductive path” and is convinced that the “challenges” of the area are “the competition between different”.
