Prepare for failure – National Council: New gas storage rules

Date:

Austria continues to guard against loss of Russian gas: On Thursday, the National Council passed a regulation allowing the state to charge suppliers with the supply and storage of natural gas. Industrial companies that store gas receive collateral. They must also have access to their own gas stock in the event of a crisis. Only when the system’s stability requires it, does the state have access to these reserves in exchange for compensation.

Immediately at the start of the plenary session, Minister of Infrastructure Leonore Gewessler (Greens) will provide information on these and other topics during “Question Time”. Another focus of the second session of the plenary week is a referendum against compulsory vaccination, which was signed by more than 269,000 Austrians.

It has also been decided that displaced persons from Ukraine fall under the Civic Integration Act, which means that they are entitled to, for example, language courses. Various corona rules in the judiciary are being extended. This creates the opportunity for an additional six months to conduct certain hearings, hearings and taking of evidence using appropriate means of communication for word or image transmission.

12-hour debate on Wednesday
The first day of the plenary week ended on Wednesday evening after about twelve hours of debate. For example, it was decided to increase student grants and to expand social assistance slightly. An application by the FPÖ to set a deadline for new elections did not find a majority.
