Further turbulence – Green Youth leaders want to leave the party

Date:

Further turbulence among the Greens in Germany: the board of the Green Youth wants to resign from the party. The chairmen of the Green youth organization, Svenja Appuhn and Katharina Stolla, announced this in a letter on Wednesday. “As you may have heard, we – the entire Federal Board of Directors of the Green Youth – have decided not to run for re-election and to leave the party tomorrow,” it says.

Appuhn and Stolla wrote that the decision to leave the party had already been made “in the past few weeks”, that is, before the announcement of the resignation of the federal board of the Green Party on Wednesday. Your letter is addressed to the outgoing party chairmen Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour, as well as to the chairmen of the Bundestag parliamentary group, Katharina Dröge and Britta Haßelmann.

“It’s better if we break up now”
The resignation of the Green party board “undoubtedly demonstrates human greatness,” Appuhn and Stolla said. But they continued: “We do not assume that a personnel reorganization will lead to a substantive and strategic realignment of the party in our interests. It is better if we part ways now and you can start over.”

Lang and Nouripour and the entire Green party board announced their resignations on Wednesday. After a series of weak election results, the Greens are “in the deepest crisis in a decade,” Nouripour said, justifying the drastic step. A “reboot” is needed to lead the party out of this crisis.
