Non-bill on Venezuela in the Basque Parliament, presented by PNV and PSE-EE

During the first plenary session of the legislature, PNV and PSE-EE presented a non-legislative proposal regarding the events that took place in Venezuela after the elections of 28 July. The text was approved with 38 votes in favour, 7 against and 28 abstentions.

He Basque Parliament resumed its usual activities on Thursday with the celebration of the first ordinary plenary session of the 13th parliamentary term. The Chamber has been active since May, but has not held debates since the “superplenum” in February of the previous parliamentary term.

The plenary session began at 9:30 with the election of three senators by autonomous appointment, the resolution of the Incompatibility Commission on six socialist parliamentarians and the appointment of the members of the Board of Directors of Gogora.

Once the procedures have been completed, the discussion has begun on a non-legal proposal from the government partners. PNV and PSE-EEregarding the events that took place in Venezuela after the elections of July 28. Both groups have expressed their “concern about the growing number of arbitrary arrests and the continued intimidation of the opposition”. Therefore, they ask the Maduro government to “immediately stop” them and publish all the electoral reports. In the same way, they urge the Basque, Spanish and European leaders to continue supporting “democracy and peace” in the Latin American country. Jeltzales and the Socialists did not mention in their proposal the recognition of Edmundo González as elected president.

The PP and EH Bildu have tabled amendments to this initiative in its entirety.
