The Basque Parliament on Thursday rejected EH Bildu’s proposal to create a special commission to analyze the phenomenon of fake news after a debate led by the exchange of accusations between the groups about the authorship of the so-called ‘fake news’ and the responsibility therein. .

The Abertzale coalition’s initiative did not go through, as it only had the support of its parliamentarians and those of Sumar, while the PNV, PSE-EE, PP and Vox positioned themselves against it.

Joseba Díez (PNV) has rejected the commission because it aims to “control what happens on the streets and in the media,” which deviates “very far” from her party’s model of understanding society.

Socialist Ekain Rico has accused the PP of “spreading garbage and starting the sludge machine.” “The PP and Vox are part of the disinformation,” he added.

Finally, Sumar lawmaker Jon Hernández has contributed to concrete measures to fight what he has defined as “a dirty business protected by impunity.”
