After the elections: – Surprises and government prospects

Date:

In the “Rainer-Nowak-Talk” on krone.tv, communications consultants Heidi Glück, Sonja Kato, political professor Gerda Füricht-Fiegl and pollster Christoph Haselmayer discussed.

The electoral battle was over and the FPÖ emerged as the clear winner. “That was the only small surprise: this clarity,” says pollster Christoph Haselmayer (IFDD). He himself and the other opinion research institutes are well placed with their assessments. All within the range of fluctuations. The upcoming state elections in Vorarlberg (October 13) and especially in Styria (November 24) are likely to provide additional momentum – in the middle of what is likely to be a heated negotiating phase, the ÖVP is threatened with a major defeat.

“That should increase the pressure on ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer,” says Haselmayer. For political scientist Gerda Füricht-Figl, a possible three-party coalition is fraught with problems. “Here it’s usually two against one, not together.” Yet you should not compare this traffic light with the one in Germany, especially because the NEOS are different from the FDP, as Heidi Glück said. For them, the election was one of dissatisfaction with the system. FPÖ with ÖVP cannot be ruled out – there was agreement. Glück said that if FP boss Kickl did not govern but became club chairman, he would have much more parliamentary power.

SPÖ-affiliated communications expert Sonja Cato was surprised why so many women voted for the FPÖ and said it was the ÖVP’s chutzpah to present this record loss as a victory. In any case, a coalition of three parties offers an opportunity for innovation.
