An institutional law in Iurreta recognizes the work of the Ertzaintza Mobile Brigade

The security adviser of the Basque government presided over the event, recalling that the work of the Ertzaintza “is always at the service of the citizens” and promising “new means and resources to adapt to new times”.

An institutional event that took place this morning in Iurreta (Bizkaia) has recognized the work of the Ertzaintza Mobile Brigade Unit.

The security advisor to the Basque government, Bingen Zupiriachaired the 40th anniversary event of the Ertzaintza Mobile Brigade Unit, whose members “past and present” he thanked for their work during these four decades.

In his speech, Zupiria recalled that the work of the Ertzaintza “has always been at the service of the citizens” and has “promised new means and resources to adapt to new times.”

The counselor has emphasized that the Ertzaintza is responsible for “adapting to the new time we live and confront new forms of crime with new means and methods. But it must do so by remembering the values ​​that created it.”

Zupiria added that it is the task of “those of us who lead this Security Department and the Ertzaintza, to work so that the men and women who are part of the Ertzaintza can carry out their work in the best possible conditions, with the suitable resources and with the necessary training for this. And that is what we will work for.”

At one of the moments of the celebration, the director of the Ertzaintza, Victoria Landa, accompanied by the Nagusi of the Mobile Brigade, Ana Isabel Sánchez, gave a special souvenir to nine active ertzainas of the Mobile Brigade with more than 30 years of service continuously on this unit.

As the Ministry of Security noted in a note, the March 28, 1984 An order from the Ministry of the Interior approved the call for the provision of destinations in a new Ertzaintza unit called the Mobile Brigade with 89 ertzainas, 12 corporals, an inspector, a sergeant and a sergeant major. Months later, the unit began its journey to the Arkaute Police Academy (Álava). In the beginning, five women formed the Mobile Brigade.

Currently the unit has 418 troops. The majority of officers are male, but currently women are represented at all levels: a mayor, an officer, a petty officer, two chief officers and eight constables. A total of 13 women.
