The US government imposes new sanctions in response to Iran’s attack on Israel on October 1. Meanwhile, the EU also wants to impose new sanctions on Iran on Monday.
The announcement of the US sanctions came as Israel and its key ally were discussing Israel’s plans for military retaliation against Iran. Meanwhile, the highest Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur, has begun in Israel. All public life in the country has come to a standstill.
According to the ministry, companies active in the Iranian oil trade and several ships transporting Iranian oil are affected. Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel in early October. Israel threatened Tehran with “lethal and precise” retaliation.
U.S. officials feared that an attack on Iranian facilities could prompt Tehran to attack oil fields in Saudi Arabia and possibly force the U.S. to intervene militarily, the Wall Street Journal wrote.
Iran has warned Arab countries that it could retaliate against them if they allow Israel to use its airspace to attack targets in Iran.
Meanwhile, the EU also wants to impose new sanctions on Iran on Monday. According to diplomats, member states want to respond to Iran’s delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia.
