With even more tailwinds after the state elections in Vorarlberg, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl will enter the second round of exploratory talks with the SPÖ and the ÖVP this week. On Monday, the blue frontman provided direction and emphasized that the will of the voters should not be ignored.
The Freedom Party has failed to make a big impact in Vorarlberg, but in the end they can look forward to doubling their vote share and a record result of around 28 percent. Kickl thanked voters from the region at a press conference on Monday and drew attention to an “interesting aspect”: the largest influx was registered from the non-voter segment. In this context, Kickl spoke of the “largest democratization project in the country”.
Even weeks after the “crystal clear results” of the National Council elections, the ÖVP and SPÖ’s vision was “clouded” and the facts distorted, Kickl complained. For him, it currently seems that the Social Democrats and the Chancellor’s party want to “save themselves”. And Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen took part in this ’embezzlement campaign’.
In this context, Kickl pointed out the fact that a mandate to form a government would not be called a “dictate”, and thus it is far from saying that these negotiations are successful. But you won’t find out ‘after you’ve tried it’. Van der Bellen himself contradicted the motto ‘to guarantee clarity’ after discussions with all parliamentary parties, Kickl continued.
