PSE-EE and PNV reach an agreement to “provide stability” to Eibar

Date:

At the presentation of the pact, the absence of the PNV spokesperson in the Eibar municipal council, Josu Mendicute, attracted attention. When asked about this, the chairman of the municipality’s jeltzale group acknowledged that there are different views on the agreement.

Provide ‘stability’ for the municipality and promote projects that ‘improve’ the quality of life of citizens. They are two of the axes of the agreement reached between the two countries PSE-EE and the PNV to form a coalition government in the Eibar Municipal Council. The pact will give them the absolute majority.

After learning yesterday about the existence of the agreement, today the Socialist mayor Jon Iraolathe Secretary General of the Eibar Socialist Group, Ana Telleriathe President of Uri Buru Batzarra of Eibar, Eva Judgeand the mayor Jeltzale Alberto de la Hoz They announced the details of the contents at a press conference. As they have emphasized, the purpose of this pact is to provide “stability and certainty” to the actions of the municipal government, “essential elements” for the good governance of the city.

Iraola will lead this coalition government, Ana Telleria (PSE-EE) will be the first deputy mayor and there will be a second deputy mayor from the PNV. Four socialist representatives and three Yeltzales join the local government. PNV will take over the delegations of Equality, Youth, Basque Country, Mobility-Traffic, Environment and Egoibarra.

During the presentation of the agreement, attention was drawn to the absence of the PNV spokesperson in the Eibar Municipal Council, Josu Mendikute, who has assured EITB in a telephone conversation that he will provide full explanations about his actions in the party’s internal bodies.

Asked about the issue, the judge acknowledged that the agreement with the Socialists has led to disagreements within the party, as some see “more disadvantages than advantages”. On the question of whether Mendikute will continue in the municipal group, he indicated that it is up to him to convey his decision to the competent authorities.

For their part, the two opposition groups, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemoshave shown their anger because, they claim, they learned about the agreement through the media. They have also expressed surprise at the “major differences” that exist between the PSE-EE and the PNV in the municipality, as they have said. For this reason, they believe that the agreement has been imposed from outside.
