Barack Obama has already participated in the US presidential elections. The former president (2009-2017) filled out his ballot in Chicago on Monday and deposited it in a mailbox, he announced during a speech in the battleground state of Wisconsin. There he appeared together with Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.
Obama said he walked to the mailbox even though it made the Secret Service bodyguards nervous. “What kind of blue thing is that?” asked his younger employees, who were no longer familiar with mailboxes.
Election Day is November 5 and Wisconsin is one of the crucial states that could decide the race for the White House between Democrat Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
To win the election, 270 voters from the 50 states are needed. Wisconsin is one of seven so-called swing states where both parties have a realistic chance of winning.
In contrast, many other states, such as California and Idaho, lean clearly toward Democrats or Republicans. In Wisconsin, ten electors are assigned.
Ex-president has acted against Trump again
During his appearance, Obama, who is still very popular with Democrats, took a tough stance against former President Donald Trump, who was again on the run from Republicans after being voted out of office in 2020.
He joked about the 78-year-old selling all sorts of stuff, like sneakers, Bibles and watches, to his followers for $100,000. “Who does that?” He especially emphasized that the Bibles were printed in China. Trump is the “tough guy in China, except when it comes to making some quick money.”
Obama called Trump’s long appearances a “word salad” and described his successor in the White House as “strange” behavior. “If grandpa acted like that, they’d be worried.”
