While Republican Donald Trump appears to be the winner in the final part of the US presidential election, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl was happy with a “defeat for the system”. “The Americans have chased away the narcissistic politics of the icy elites,” Kickl explains. NEOS and the Greens were concerned.
Chancellor Karl Nehammer congratulated Trump on X and said he looks forward to “further expanding and strengthening our transatlantic relations.” The FPÖ leader also joined the ranks of well-wishers. The citizens “rightly voted out the establishment that is far removed from the citizens.”
The election victory was “impressive and clear”. Kickl explained that he “wishes new President Donald Trump much strength, courage and energy for his coming term and the many challenges that await him.”
Kickls’ post on Facebook shows Trump in a victory position:
“What a defeat for the system, including experts and the combined media in the US, the EU and here,” Kickl said and also had a pun ready. “Americans are making Trump great again and Trump is making America great again,” Kickl wrote on Facebook.
Kickl criticized the ‘unified election loser’ in this country
He also drew parallels with the situation in Austria: “In the US, the signs point to a breath of fresh air, new paths and optimism. And here the united election losers, who have brought our country into a dramatic negative development, continue to muddle through in the name of the head of state.”
NEOS is concerned about democracy in the US
NEOS and the Greens saw developments in the US as much less positive. “It remains to be hoped that democracy will remain strong in the US, as in the entire Western world. I don’t think it’s a done deal,” says NEOS boss Meinl-Reisinger
The Greens see a “wake-up call” for Europe
The Greens recognized a “wake-up call” for Europe. “The elections in the US show us: if we do not stand together in Europe, we risk our values and achievements,” said the club’s general manager, Sigrid Maurer, who painted a bleak picture at X. She called for to greater EU cooperation, especially in the areas of foreign, economic and climate policy.
