He also points to economic and security policy challenges that could particularly affect Europe and Austria under Trump.
“Securing America and creating new tariffs certainly won’t help our economy. “We have to become more independent,” said the Austrian media manager. But that’s not all: Mahr sees the security of Europe in particular at risk under a possible President Trump. “The war in Ukraine, the opposition to Putin’s power ambitions – will Trump represent the same stronghold here as President Biden? A question that still has no answer.
However, Mahr finds Trump’s influence on democracy even more worrying: “The autocratism that Trump has already shown and that we also saw in the election campaign will of course also have an impact on Europe.” trust of its allies. “It will become more difficult, especially for NATO and its allies in Europe, because its decisions are always eruptive and not necessarily planned for the long term,” Mahr warns.

That is also necessary for the Americans.” But what could change is the sharing of the burden within the alliance – and Mahr sees the need for action in Europe: “Who will raise the necessary money is another question.
