An infamous deer hunt with real estate juggler René Benko in Styria could have fatal consequences for the Tyrolean SPÖ leader Georg Dornauer. As the “Krone” confirms from party circles, the state leader wobbles a lot. The only thing that is certain is that Dornauer himself will not throw in the towel – but the ministerial office he supposedly aspires to will no longer be possible.
A ‘Krone’ article brings Georg Dornauer, the leader of the Tyrolean state party, under fire from the media. Tyrolean SPÖ boss Georg Dornauer, wearing someone else’s hat and real estate juggler René Benko, claims he was just on a hunting trip in Styria. Despite his proud stance and the ‘Beutebruch’ hat on his head, Dornauer famously claims that he did not kill the game himself.
Dornauer fears for his job
As is known, he was banned from carrying weapons in 2019 after he left his hunting weapon in the car with the window open at Innsbruck airport. Last week he requested that the ban be lifted. Now the SPÖ state leader has to worry about his job.
As the “Krone” heard from the SPÖ headquarters on Löwelstrasse in Vienna, Dornauer is “shaking enormously”. An alleged ministerial position (presumably defense) should no longer be a problem. Conducting security negotiations in the exploratory talks with the ÖVP, which Dornauer also referred to, is now “no longer justifiable”.
One thing is certain: Dornauer will not give up on himself. The Tyrolean told the “Krone” that he would not resign. The state party’s executive committee will also meet in Tyrol at 2 p.m., likely to strengthen Dornauer’s back. It remains to be seen whether this will also impress the federal party leaders in Vienna.
