Israel’s new Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has spoken out in favor of attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities (see video above). The country is “more vulnerable than ever to attacks,” so there is an opportunity to “achieve our most important goal,” the politician wrote on Platform X.
Its main goal is to “thwart and eliminate the existential threat to the State of Israel.” Katz said he also emphasized this during his first meeting with the General Staff. The Israeli military destroyed radar and missile facilities in Iran in October. The government there would aim for atomic bombs. It denies this and emphasizes that the nuclear program only serves peaceful purposes.
Facilities are located in deep tunnels
Some of Iran’s nuclear facilities are located in such deep tunnels that experts estimate they cannot be destroyed by the Israeli military. At best, it is only possible to postpone the expansion of the nuclear program. According to estimates, the US military would be able to destroy the nuclear facilities.
You can see Israel Katz’s post here.
In early October, newly-elected US President Donald Trump advised Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. At the same time, during the election campaign and after his victory, he stated that he would not start wars, but would rather end them.
No ceasefire in Lebanon
Another topic Katz recently spoke about on Platform X is a possible ceasefire in the war with Hezbollah. He clearly rejected such attempts. At least fourteen people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the northern Lebanese city of Ain Yaaqoub on Monday evening. 15 others were injured. A residential building was hit and some people were initially trapped under the rubble.
Lebanese Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels had previously fired rockets at Israel. A total of seven people were injured, including a one-year-old child.
Hezbollah is an ally of Iran and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and has been shelling Israel since the start of the Gaza war over a year ago. The Israeli army responds with massive air strikes and a ground offensive. The US and Israeli militaries also repeatedly bomb targets in Yemen, home to the Houthi rebels.
