The decision of the American judiciary on whether or not to discontinue proceedings against future American President Donald Trump over the hush money payment to a porn actress was postponed on Tuesday. His election victory will likely dwarf the Republican’s extensive legal problems.
New York Judge Juan Merchan postponed the decision until November 19, according to an email from the court to the litigants.
Trump’s lawyers had requested that Trump’s conviction be annulled and thus the pending sentence. They cited a July Supreme Court ruling that granted Trump and all presidents broad protection from criminal prosecution.
The former president was found guilty by a New York jury in late May of falsifying business documents to cover up the payment of hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels. He is the first former US president in history to be criminally convicted.
The announcement of his sentence is still pending. It has been postponed several times and is now scheduled for November 26. Even if Judge Merchan refuses to dismiss the case, it is doubtful since Trump’s election victory that he will be punished in the case.
