Before coalition negotiations between the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS can begin, a number of obstacles must be removed. The exploratory teams plan to meet again on Monday before negotiations continue this weekend.
Questions that remain open require clarification at several levels. A meeting of party leaders is also not excluded. In the case of the NEOS, the party leadership still has to give the green light for the coalition negotiations.
There is currently no invitation or date for the meeting of the pink extended party board, which must approve the start of possible coalition negotiations according to the party statutes. However, this could happen at relatively short notice and the party board could then meet online, the party said on Friday. Such decisions are not necessary for the ÖVP and SPÖ.
In any case, the parties’ reconnaissance teams will meet again early next week. A specific date for the third round of exploration in the turquoise-red-pink three-way format has not yet been set, but it should also be on the weekend.
Does the next phase start on Monday?
The assumption is that a meeting will take place at Palais Epstein on Monday morning. Ideally, a decision should be made on the start of coalition negotiations and the concrete timetable for the talks in the individual clusters should be determined. These could start on Tuesday. Until then, the parties would like to keep a low profile about the composition of their negotiating teams for the government negotiations, but the ‘Krone’ knows the first details.
