Lehendakari’s journey, 1000 days of war in Ukraine, UPV/EHU debate

These are the topics that will be central main headlines from next Tuesday, November 19, 2024:

– First official journey of the lehendakari: The Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, will travel to Luxembourg and Brussels this Tuesday and Wednesday to defend in the European institutions the creation of the Atlantic Arc Macroregion, the official status of the Basque Country and the role of Euskadi as a key figure in the industrial sector. This is Pradales’ first international trip as a Lehendakari. The Lehendakari will hold meetings with representatives of European institutions such as the President of the European Investment Bank, Nadia Calviño, or the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.

– 1000 days of war in Ukraine: The war in Ukraine is 1000 days old, with Russia gaining ground in the east every day and the Ukrainian armed forces needing more soldiers, but with an important change in the support they receive from the United States: the ability to launch ATACMS missiles at Russian territory to use. The President of the State Duma or Chamber of Deputies of Russia, Viacheslav Volodin, has already warned that Western permission for Ukraine to use long-range missiles “will only worsen Ukraine’s fate and future.”

– Debate about the UPV/EHU elections: Eva Ferreira and Joxerramon Bengoetxea, the two candidates for the rectorship of UPV/EHU, will face each other this afternoon in an election debate in the Aula Magna of the Leioa Campus of the public university. This is a debate organized by the Student Council of the University of the Basque Country, which will be moderated by the President of the entity Iñigo Ugedo. Both Ferreira, the current rector, and candidate Bengoetxea are fully immersed in the election campaign ahead of the UPV/EHU elections on November 26.
