The Minister of Housing, Denis Itxaso, has announced that this forum will meet for the first time on January 22 in Bilbao.
The Basque government has established by decree the creation of the Euskadi Forum for Urban Planning and Housingan advisory and participation space that brings together public, private and social actors for the design and implementation of housing policies, with the aim of “streamlining and incentivizing” the management of land for sheltered housing in the Basque Country.
The Basque Council of Government approved the creation of this forum on Tuesday 54 members it represents the executive, municipal councils, the private sector and various associations and citizen groups.
The housing consultant, Denis Itxasoexplained in the press conference after the Council that one of the first initiatives to be discussed in this forum, which will meet for the first time on January 22 in Bilbao, is related to measures to “streamline and incentivize” soil management for sheltered housing.
In this regard, Itxaso said that the research into the effectiveness of Agricultural and Urban Planning Act of 2006 will propose a revision of the current regulatory framework to promote sheltered housing through “greater flexibility and agility” in procedures.
The Forum will also propose to study land transfer initiatives in areas with stressed housing markets and “the extensive soil mapping publicly and privately classified for sheltered housing, identifying the situation and specific features of these lands”.
‘The challenge of ensuring decent housing must necessarily address the offer activation and better management of available resources, such as land,” the advisor emphasized.
It will analyze public-private partnership the search for different mechanisms to reach agreements, for example with the European Investment Bank.
Demonstration in Bilbao
About the demonstration last weekend In Bilbao to demand that the right to housing be guaranteed, Itxaso expressed his “respect and understanding” but recalled the Basque government’s commitment to combat the situation and work with all sectors.
He has insisted that by 2025, an estimated figure of pressured residential rental zones will be applied in the three capitals of the Basque Autonomous Community and in municipalities such as Barakaldo and Irun, which will “protect tenants”.
