The Spanish government pledges to approve the decree to extend the energy tax before the end of the year

Date:

However, the Board guarantees that this decision will later be processed as a bill and convert the levy into a tax. In this way he wants to obtain the support of Podemos and PNV.

The Spanish government confirmed to Esquerra Republicana (ERC), EH Bildu and BNG on Wednesday that it will adopt a decree law before the end of the year to extend the tax on energy companies.

It is the result of the meeting that the College held with these groups, to which Podemos, Junts and EAJ/PNV were also invited but did not attend. The participants of the meeting agree that the legal decree is the only possible way to guarantee its entry into force on January 1, 2025, when the current tax expires.

However, the vote of the formations that were not present is essential for Congress to ratify the decree-law approved by the government. In this sense, the offer of the Ministry of Finance is to guarantee that the decree-law will later be processed as a bill and thus be able to convert the tax into a tax, since it is not possible to create taxes through the figure of the decree. .

With this future processing project, the council wants to gain the support of Podemos and PNV. The purple formation is cautious about the temporary tax, because it wants a permanent tax. For its part, the PNV has always said that it is against the current non-tax benefit format because it cannot be collected by the provincial treasuries, but it does not shy away from creating a tax figure that Euskadi and Navarra can to manage.
