Gewessler warns: – Coalition negotiators’ plans are “short-sighted”

Date:

Outgoing Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler wants to continue to work for climate protection with an “activist heart” and warns against the “extremely short-sighted” plans of the coalition negotiators of the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS.

Gewessler has low expectations for the Zuckerl coalition when it comes to environmental issues. “When I look at the negotiations now, I do not have the impression that climate protection has the priority that it needs and that this great issue of the century deserves.” Because: “It is extremely short-sighted that the first point is that the topic of Saving comes to mind, but climate protection does.”

“Stable democracy against authoritarian fantasies”
In general, after the initial euphoria, there is now a fundamental debate going on, which concerns questions such as ‘fossil past or renewable future’, but also ‘stable democracy against authoritarian fantasies’: ‘I am convinced that the Greens have the right are’ We have answers,” the 47-year-old said in an interview with the APA. She is concerned about the reaction of “conservative to right-wing extremist circles”, for example when she looks at the debate on electromobility. Hesitation and hesitation endanger the entire European economy, she warned: “Otherwise, sooner or later we will have a Nokia moment for the European car industry, and no one will want that.”

“The Greens’ moment is coming again”
The Greens should be more convincing again and gain more support in the elections. “Growing again is always a goal,” she emphasizes. It is also clear at EU level what difference it makes, for example in the Council of Energy or Environment Ministers, whether there are two or seven Green ministers. She was even more convinced of Austria: “The moment will come again for the Greens to govern together.”

Gewessler continued to leave her future open. “I have a nice place in the plenary meeting and can support Werner Kogler there,” she said when asked who could succeed the outgoing federal spokesperson. The rest will be discussed and initiated next year.

“Activist heart will always remain”
She also left open the question of whether she would oppose the highway tunnel in Lobau, which she fought against as a minister. But the minister wants to continue to stand behind civil society because: “My activist heart will always remain with me.”
