Hamas has not yet provided a complete list of all Israeli hostages. The terrorist organization said they needed more time and a break in the fighting to determine their whereabouts and health conditions.
She said some hostages are now in the hands of other terrorist groups. It was recently announced that an Israeli hostage attempted suicide. The attempt took place three days ago and was related to the hostage’s psychological condition, according to a spokesman for the extremist organization Islamic Jihad. The person’s life could have been saved.
The Israeli government does not believe that Hamas cannot provide a complete list of hostages. For months, mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar have been trying to broker a ceasefire and the release of about a hundred hostages. Many of them are probably no longer alive.
Talks will resume
There were only signs of a possible agreement recently, but Hamas again called for an end to the war, which the Israeli government rejected. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has now announced that talks will resume in Qatar. Both sides could return to the negotiating table after newly-elected US President Donald Trump takes office on January 20, according to Arab mediators.
In recent months there have been repeated discussions and statements that an agreement could be reached soon. According to Palestinian figures, more than 45,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war following the Hamas massacre in Israel. The number cannot be independently verified and does not distinguish between civilians and armed forces.
