The Spanish Pelota Federation is appealing against the accession of the Basque Federation to the International

Date:

The Spanish Federation calls the recognition of the Basque woman as a full member a “nationalist attack on Euskadi” and claims it has the support of the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) to challenge it.

The Spanish Pelota Federation has confirmed that will take legal action against the decision of the International Basque Pelota Federation (FIPV) to officially recognize the Basque Federation as a member. According to the Spanish Federation, the decision is a “nationalist attack on Euskadi” and will therefore be appealed to both the court and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS).

Just six days after recognition, the Spanish Federation announces an appeal and assures that it has the “support of the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Spanish Sports Federation (ADESP).”

In a statement, the federation accuses that the procedure of the FIPV General Assembly in Pamplona was “completely flawed” and so it was “irregular and opaque”.

According to the President of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Federation, Julián García Angulo, “the procedure included the irregular exclusion from Spain by hasty disciplinary sanctions against him, contrary to the FIPV’s own rules, which allowed the approval of agreements that would otherwise have found a solution. strong opposition and de facto impossibility of approval”.

“The Spanish Pelota Federation has the unanimous support of Spanish sport. During a meeting on Thursday, January 2 at the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), the President of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, and the General Secretary of the Spanish Sports Association (COE) ADESP), Vicente Martínez, expressed their full support for the legal actions that will be taken,” the statement said.

The Spanish Pelota Federation trusts that the Higher Sports Council (CSD) ‘does exercises’ a criterion of caution and do not ratify any agreement resulting from this Assembly.

“We reiterate our commitment to defending the interests of Spanish sport and our determination to ensure that this situation is resolved in accordance with the principles of justice, legality and respect for international standards and the spirit of the Olympic movement,” concluded Garcia Angulo.
