State Secretary for Digital – “AI will soon completely change our lives”

Date:

“Artificial intelligence will soon completely change our lives,” said Secretary of State for Digitization, Florian Tursky (ÖVP), in the talk on krone.tv. The voice and text-based chatbot ChatGPT has shown many personally for the first time what artificial intelligence is and what it can do. “There will be an incredible change in the near future.”

According to Tursky, AI will simplify our lives, make us healthier and improve our quality of life. But it is also clear that internet crime will increase. Here Austria relies on trained specialists and data security. And: “Digitization will ultimately be Austria’s prosperity.”

Jobs that can no longer be filled can be replaced by artificial intelligence in the future. But don’t worry: “All in all, AI will create more jobs if we in Austria recognize the opportunities that come from it.”

AI needs limits
But are there also areas in which we should not use AI? “Yes,” Tursky is sure. “We are currently regulating that at European level.” There is still no legal regulation worldwide for the use of artificial intelligence. “The European Union is the first to introduce this now. For example, we are strongly committed to ensuring that social scoring, as known from China, is banned in Europe in the future and that people are not excluded from insurance systems due to big data and artificial intelligence solutions.”

The education system will change in the future
Education, learning and teaching will also change in the future, Tursky clarifies. ChatGPT asks a lot of questions, especially for teachers in everyday school life. How should this be handled? “I recently saw a photo of teachers demonstrating against calculators. And I think that describes the problem very well. Technical developments that have changed the basis of teaching and learning have also repeatedly occurred in the school system. I think we just have to adapt to that.” There are many opportunities for the future, “that’s why I try to approach the subject in a positive way.”

Tursky’s goal for the future is also digitization: “I would like to put all the ID cards that you currently have in your wallet on your mobile phone.” The first step was the digital driver’s license, which is rarely used for traffic checks but for proof of age or identity, Tursky said. Data security is as good as “as we can somehow guarantee it”. Austria relies extremely heavily on data security. This does not exclude continued digitization.
