An avalanche hit a ski slope in the municipality of Gaschurn in Montafon (Vorarlberg) on Wednesday morning. The search for possible victims is still ongoing.
Around 10 a.m. in the Nova Valley, a patch of snow broke loose in the open area and spilled parts of a ski slope below it, Gaschurn police confirmed at the request of “Krone”. According to initial information, the affected slope should have been closed.
However, just to be on the safe side, the rescue chain was set in motion. Alpine police, mountain rescue service, dog unit and two helicopters are still searching the avalanche cone for possible victims.
“prefer not to bury”
According to eyewitness accounts, no one was swept away by the snow masses and police do not currently believe there are any buried persons. There are few skiers in the ski area today (Wednesday, please note). Further information will follow.
