In Salzburg – traffic disruption due to snowfall

Date:

Snowfall into the valleys led to traffic disruption in the mountainous regions of Salzburg on Friday morning. In the Lungau, the B99 between the Katschberg Pass and St. Michael was closed at 11.40 am “due to the weather and stuck vehicles”, as described by traffic expert Romana Schuster of ÖAMTC. Snow chains are mandatory for all vehicles in this area.

Trucks over 3.5 tons were only allowed to drive with snow chains on the B99 over the Radstädter Tauern between Tweng (Lungau) and Untertauern (Pongau). Thick flakes also fell on the Tauernautobahn (A10), in Flachauwinkl (Pongau) it occasionally snowed heavily.

Highway temporarily closed
Several trucks caused traffic jams: At the toll station St. Michael im Lungau a truck overturned towards Salzburg, the highway was blocked in this area for a short time, as well as the Katschberg tunnel towards Salzburg due to a defective truck.

In addition, the A10 between Flachau (Pongau) and the Tauerntunnel had to be closed for a short time because a truck had a flat tire in the tunnel. AMTC’s traffic expert recalled that the situational winter tire obligation applies in Austria from November 1 to April 15.
