Former Vice Chancellor and former FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache speaks about “long-awaited decisions” in the live talk of krone.tv. Many pragmatists among the Social Democrats are now said to be angry and thinking about how to get rid of SPÖ leader Andreas Babler.
On Sunday, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen rhetorically opened the doors to FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, and Van der Bellen announced that he would be invited for talks on Monday. The new chairman of the ÖVP, Christian Stocker, also finds surprisingly conciliatory words.
The previously passionate critic Kickls spoke to the media on Sunday about a different situation. What happened? “Sometimes, of course, you need a painful push,” says Heinz-Christian Strache in the live talk of krone.tv.
Election Sunday was actually painful enough for the ÖVP and SPÖ, according to Strache. “But there was apparently no self-reflection at that time. People slipped from one chaos to another just to use every means possible to prevent an FPÖ government. Maybe now we have learned something new.” However, there is still room to work on credibility, at least as far as Christian Stocker is concerned, Strache says.
Nehammer was on the “wrong path”
Karl Nehammer was on a “wrong path” that has now ended. ‘He took the entire ÖVP with him.’ According to Strache, it was probably also the pressure from the economic wing of the ÖVP that had now become too great, ‘otherwise the ÖVP could have been dissolved immediately.’ wasn’t serious and if you make permanent changes you actually have a problem.
Herbert Kickl is now faced with the situation of taking the penalty. “Negotiation skills, human quality and diplomacy – a lot is up to him now. A damn tough task awaits him. “It won’t be a treat.”
