In the krone.tv interview, the outgoing Green Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler analyzes current developments in domestic politics and also his relationship with ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer, where he lived for many years in the federal government: “I got to know Nehammer as a sincere and honest politician. But you now see, especially in the ÖVP, how much you can bend.”
This apparently refers to the turn that current ÖVP chairman Christian Stocker made towards Herbert Kickl. The Green federal spokesperson justifies the current fact that there have been so many losses for the Greens in the last elections with the situation of previous years: “Especially from 2019 to 2021 we had historic highs everywhere.”
In any case, there would have been many positive developments thanks to the Green Party’s participation in the government in Austria: “Emissions have been falling enormously for years.” However, this development work is at risk from the incoming blue-black government. The climate bonus may now be canceled and the climate bonus could also be terminated: “When you put the climate bonus together, there are a few screws loose in the gearbox.”
Kogler’s successor later this year
As expected, the incumbent Green Vice Chancellor views the expectations of a future federal government under Herbert Kickl as negative: “Kickl is a friend of Putin and an enemy of Europe. He could have dressed like that overnight.” The Green federal spokesperson gave an evasive answer to the question who his successor in the Green Party could be – Leonore Gewessler, Alma Zadic or Stefan Kaineder were recently mentioned repeatedly: ‘We will arrange that. during the year.”
