Just a quick break: the next elections will follow in these states

Date:

The state elections in Burgenland have been defeated. The election break will only be short-lived, as the municipal elections in Lower Austria and the second mayoral election in Linz will follow next Sunday.

In Linz, citizens can choose between Dietmar Prammer (SPÖ) and Michael Raml (FPÖ) on Sunday. The two candidates achieved 40.2 and 20.2 percent in the first round.

On January 26, the residents of Lower Austria will also go to the polls to redefine their municipal councils. In Vorarlberg, the municipal and mayoral elections will take place on March 16, followed by the municipal elections in Styria (with the exception of Graz) on March 23.

These elections will take place this year.

Elections in Vienna on April 27
Vienna would have voted in the fall as planned. However, the SPÖ and NEOS decided last Friday to bring forward the vote to April 27. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) justified this by saying that the Second Republic was at a crossroads and that a “months-long election campaign” was not desired. There must be clear conditions before the summer.

This year, elections will also take place in the Austrian Student Union (ÖH) from May 13 to 15. The Chamber of Commerce election is also on the agenda from March 10 to 13.

The 2026 election year will be quiet. Only the municipal councils of Graz and St. Pölten are newly elected. In 2027, there will be state elections in Tyrol and Upper Austria, as well as municipal elections in Carinthia, Upper Austria and Burgenland.
