Information about access etc. – US abortion rights website offline

Date:

A few hours after the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, a website about abortion is no longer accessible. The platform was launched under Democrat Joe Biden after the US Supreme Court struck down nationwide abortion rights in June 2022.

It provided information on, among other things, the legal situation and access to abortions in the country, as well as contraceptives and the protection of sensitive health data. Those who visited reproductiverights.gov only saw an error message on Monday evening (local time).

The dispute over abortion rights has been one of the central conflicts in the US for years and was an important topic in the election campaign. Democrats have already warned of massive further restrictions under a Republican-led administration.

During his first term, Trump appointed several conservative justices to the Supreme Court, shifting the ideological majority to the right. Since the 2022 ruling that overturned the national law, individual US states have been able to decide for themselves whether abortions are legal or banned.

Trump himself has been quite reserved so far. Polls in the US show that the majority of respondents support limited abortion rights.
