The Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, resigned on Tuesday. Since November there have been demonstrations against the government in the capital Belgrade. The trigger was the collapse of a roof in a train station in Novi Sad.
As reported, 15 people were killed in the accident at the beginning of November. Countless other injuries suffered. Conversion work was carried out at the time of the collapse. The most important train station of Novi Sad was built in 1964 in the then socialist Yugoslavia.
Thousands of demonstrators, including teachers and students, are responsible for corruption with the government of populist President Aleksandar Vučić for the catastrophe. A government representative rejected a statement on Tuesday.
Students beaten up
Vučević set up his resignation on Tuesday with the recent events in Novi Sad. Several students who attached stickers were beaten by a mess last night. The perpetrators came from the office space of the government (SNS).
Vučević has been at the top of the government since April of the previous year and is the chairman of the SNS, although President Vučić is still in charge. The latter had demanded that the government had to be planned again. Half of the items must therefore be filled in. The head of the government was also mayor of Novi Sad when the renovation work at the train station was already active. That is why he is seen in public as a co -responsible.
Documents
Documents about the renovation work at the station presentation appeared on a government portal. For the first time, the name of a Serbian company can be read, which, as it seems, has not been understood so far with the person who has already been raised against 13. The roof had become heavier than necessary with 20 tons.
It is currently not clear whether there will be new elections. The opposition calls for a transitional government to prevent mass fraud, as in the parliamentary elections in December 2023. The SNS rejects this.
