The US Senate confirmed Pam Bondi, the former Attorney General of Florida, as the new Minister of Justice. All 53 Republican senators and the Democrat John Fetterman voted for the 59-year-old. In her new position, she will take over one of the most important ministries in the government of US President Donald Trump.
The Republican initially intended the controversial ex-MP Matt Gaetz for the post. The latter, however, withdrew his candidacy after accusations had become loud that he had sex with a minor and used drugs. After Gaetz ‘Trump trusted on Bondi and referred to her 20 years of experience as a public prosecutor.
Closes confidants
Bondi is considered a loyal confidant of the Republican, supported him in the first office procedure in 2019 and should consistently pursue the line in the Ministry of Justice.
Trump is currently taking steps to bind the Ministry of Justice more to his political goals alongside other authorities.
Fear of reprisals
In this context, various FBI agents have sued the Ministry of Justice shortly before the Bondis confirmation. The officials involved in the investigation into the Storm on the American Capitol on January 6, 2021 are exposed to reprisals. The FBI is secondary to the Ministry of Justice.
