Millions of users of the Germany ticket do not know how things will continue in the coming year. The financing of the ticket for public transport is only secured by the end of 2025.
The Germany ticket has cost 58 euros for a month since January and gives you the right to run nationwide in all buses and trains. About 13.5 million people in Germany now use the ticket that was introduced in May 2023.
To compensate for income failure in transport companies, the federal government gives a subsidy of 1.5 billion euros every year. Another 1.5 billion euros come from the countries. To continue the ticket, the SO -driven regionalization legislation should now be changed. According to the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), the extra costs are currently more than three billion euros per year. In the previous year, 3.45 billion euros in compensation payments were required.
“For long-term financing of the Germany ticket, binding promised funds of the federal and national governments are required for sufficient amount and, including an annual dynamization, so that the ticket can remain attractive for passengers,” said VDV President Ingo Wortmann. If the ticket were 20 euros per month more expensive, some people would cancel it.
Greens want a cheaper ticket
SPD and Greens now need long -term protection. The federal government must participate in financing in the long term, said North Rhine-Westphalia’s transport minister Oliver Krischer (Groenen). “The fact is: when we are talking about price increases, we cannot fully exclude the general price increase. But they must remain moderate and explained, because the success of the ticket is also related to the low price, ”said Lower Sakony’s transport minister Olaf Lies (SPD).
The greens, on the other hand, want the price to be lowered to the original 49 euros per month. The Word Germany ticket does not appear in the election program of the CDU and CSU.
