In Upper Austria there has been no money for refugees since the summer of 2024. Instead, you will receive a so -so -so -not -built -cash benefit card. 680 people are currently included in the pilot project, 1600 asylum seekers are not yet affected. De Spö wanted to find the details in a request from the State Parliament of the responsible ÖVP State Council.
It was intended as a model for the whole of Austria -but recently the federal government decided another provider of the non -cash -benefit card for asylum seekers.
Upper Austria has rolled out the pilot project since July 2024: refugees must be booked in a bank card instead of cash. This is to prevent abuse.
The Spö has questioned the system in the State Parliament and now the answer at the request of the responsible State Council Christian Dörfel (ÖVP) is available. Accordingly, 680 payment cards are currently active, 1600 asylum seekers do not (yet) have a card.
No extra effort
The costs of the project are in a manageable framework: according to Dörfel they are so far intended for 18,453.72 euros.
According to the response to questions, the switch to the national system mentioned at the start of the social department may not cause any additional costs. Since the introduction of the cards, no extra staff is needed.
