Last obstacles – Neos can continue with a rich voice in the government

Date:

The Neos voted on Sunday for the Triple Coalition by more than 94 percent. Negotiations with the ÖVP and Spö are not over yet, but would take five years, said party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger.

She wiped tears of joy when she welcomed the result with the Neos tip. 94.13 percent of the 1700 members voted for the coalition with the ÖVP and Spö and therefore also blessed the new government program.

Politics should think beyond close assignments, national boundaries and the next election day, said Meinl Reisinger, which is intended as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In January there were good reasons to get up from the triple negotiations. However, there was much different in the second round. The Neos would have brought many important points and may be proud of the result.

That is why Meinl Reisinger wants to go to this government “with confidence and unwavering optimism”. It is clear that negotiations with the ÖVP and Spö are not over yet, they would start from Monday and last five years.

Skeptics were silenced
Above all, the party leader was the driving force that the Neos were also available for the formation of a three -way coalition for the second attempt.

Instead, some pink senior officials would have favored a topic partnership in parliament with the ÖVP and Spö. They feared that the Neos will reveal their values in the triple coalition. It is said that Meinl-Reisinger has stopped all opponents in the party-internal meetings.

Return: “We will deliver”
Vice mayor of Vienna Christoph Wegen, who will now become Minister of Education, had also appealed that the party would deliver. The government is not a sprint, but a marathon. There should be no further standstill in schools, in the current geopolitical situation a government condition and a united Europe are needed.

LIF founder Heide Schmidt and Hans Peter Haselsteiner had also promoted a yes. The skeptics hardly dared to go to the open stage. Viennese party member Stephan Mittelbach saw for example: “No work program, this is a Hope Paper”. The founders would not agree here, ÖVP and Spö referred to the will and the possibility to save.

Angelobung am Montag
To guarantee the success of the vote, MPs and high national officials had to call members to convince them of the coalition program. Meinl Reisinger even asked for a written documentation from each accompanied telephone conversation. So nobody could steal from responsibility.

At ÖVP and Spö, the respective board of directors approved the government program and the list of ministers on Friday. Federal President Alexander van der Bellen praised the new government on Monday at 11 am, the statement in the National Council can follow on Friday.
