China has raised and warned the pressure on Taiwan for an external interference. “We will continue to stimulate the cause of China’s reunification,” said Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang on Wednesday in his annual work report at the Parliament as part of the National People’s Congress (NVK).
The military budget should also grow considerably, with 7.2 percent to around 1.78 trillion Yuan (around 231 billion euros). The military budget had grown in the same size last year. China has the second largest defense budget in the world after the United States.
President Xi Jinping has stimulated an extensive modernization of the People’s Liberation Army since he took office in 2013. A “Level of World Class” will be built by 2049. At the same time, Beijing emphasizes no aggressive intentions, but only to invest in the protection of your own sovereignty.
Taiwan must be connected
The military act is increased against the background of countless conflicts and tensions, especially around Taiwan. The island with around 23 million inhabitants is considered by China as its own territory, although it has an independent democratic government.
Xi Jinping repeatedly made it clear that he did not want to postpone a trade union for an indefinite period of time – if necessary, also by violence. Beijing recently increased the military pressure on Taiwan with extensive marine maneuvers. Chinese fighter aircraft also always penetrate the Taiwanese airspace mound zone.
Experts do not expect any big surprises
The government left its goal for this year’s economic growth, despite increasing American rates by around five percent. Before 2025, a budget deficit of four percent of gross domestic product (GDP) is also focused on, after three percent in the previous year, as can be seen in a government document for the NVK. Measures were also announced to stimulate slow consumption.
The annual meeting of the unemployed parliament with its around 3000 delegates lasts seven days this year. After the opening, the MPs will advise further work reports in the coming days, which will be voted on on the last day of the meeting. Ranking ministers are expected at press conferences, for example about Chinese diplomacy. Experts hardly expect any big surprises this year.
