Nowadays the 96 municipalities of Vorarlberg choose their new municipal representatives, at 61 locations the head of the community is also immediately determined. In particular, the excitement promises the urns in the five cities, where the ÖVP wants to claim itself as the strongest power.
While the ÖVP in Begenz and Bludenz is harassed by the Spö, the FPö could shine in Feldkirch. Moreover, mayor elections can occur with Lustenau and Dornbirn.
- The first polling station has been opened since 6.45 am, at 1 pm. Results of the cities are available in the early evening.
-
Exactly in half of the 96 municipalities, namely in 48, the mayor of ÖVP currently rule a further 25 as “ÖVP-related”.
-
5 Community Chiefs belong to the FPö, 4 to the SP. In 2020 a green mayor was added for the first time and a second was added during the period.
- An excitement in the election campaign: the flood of posters. Especially in the disputed cities there are hardly any free advertising space.
Majority is right in 13 (small) communities
According to three different modes, the municipal election legislation of Vorarlberg is chosen on Sunday: in 13 (small) communities-all before five years ago, the so-called majority is used. This means that no election proposal has been submitted in these places and that there are empty ballot papers in the election cabins. The voters can enter the names of their desired candidates on this. One or more (party) lists compete in 22 communities (2020: 18), but no mayor candidate due to the lack of registration. In both cases the following applies: if there is no direct election, the head of the municipality is chosen by the new city council. The possibility of the direct elections of the mayor, on the other hand, is available in almost two -thirds of the municipalities, namely in 61 (2020: 65). If no candidate creates the absolute majority in the direct elections, the voters will have to decide again on March 30 during a Runoff election.
Expect different sectors
In the cities, the short race for majorities is also reflected in the direct elections of the mayor, various stab elections are expected. In the State Capital Begenz, Mayor Michael Ritsch (Spö) with Roland Breakfast (ÖVP), there is the election duel between the sitting Simon Tschann (ÖVP) and Spö State Party Leader Mario Leit in Bludenz. A very exciting election Sunday is also expected in Feldkirch, where mayor Manfred Rädler (ÖVP) and challenger Andrea Kerbler (FPö) are the most important candidate. Furthermore, stabbing between ÖVP and FPö politicians could easily exist in Lustenau (Patrick Wiedl, ÖVP-Martin Fitz, FPö) and possibly in Dornbirn (Julian Fässler, ÖVP-Christoph Waib, FPö). In 2020 the number of stab elections reached the record six, this brand could be exceeded this time.
On Sunday, 307,891 people (2020: 301,572) have votes, including 36,505 foreign EU citizens.
