After the power change in Damascus and the stop of the treatment of Syrian asylum applications, the number of corresponding applications in Austria continues to have a sinking flight. A total of 1397 applications were submitted in February, which means a minus of 37 percent compared to the comparison month 2024. In general, there were so low values in 2020. Only 315 applications were made by Syrians in February.
This is just a little more than half of the applications from January (618). The comparison of February of the previous year is even more meaningful. 1308 applications were submitted to Syrians.
- Asylum applications from Syrians are currently only treated in exceptions. This year only receives 39 asylum status. For comparison: 860 Afghans received the asylum title.
- In total, asylum was granted in 1240 cases in 2025. Moreover, there are 444 residence permits with regard to subsidiary protection or for consideration values.
Afghan’s lowest application group
- In the first place in the application statistics, such as in January, Afghanistan was established in February. 568 Requests were made here, with only 120 searches new. The other are follows requests or applications of children born in Austria. Here a decision by the ECJ remains an individual procedure for Afghan women.
- In total there were 3315 asylum applications this year. In the previous year it was 4489 in the first two months.
Family reunification weak
In the case of family reunification, which must be temporarily suspended by the government, little is currently happening. In the 2024 month of 2024 there was almost 1000 access to the purpose of family reunification, this number shrunk to 60 in February of this year. This is also due to the fact that the requests of Syrians are currently being accepted, but are generally not being treated temporarily.
Easy relaxation in basic care
The basic care situation is slowly slow. A good 66,000 people are currently under supervision. That is about 1500 less than at the start of the year. 55 percent of basic care people are Ukrainians. If you would calculate them, one would be in the values of 2020/2021, ie before the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
