The United States have had “constructive” discussions with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. Russia will be negotiated in the capital Riad on Monday. But the selection of the envoy of Vladimir Putin gives little hope for a breakthrough.
Washington starts on Monday with his new conversations about a limited cease -the fire with Russia. Subsequently, the American negotiators want to investigate possible paths into a peace solution in Ukraine in a form of shuttle diplomacy. According to a report from the “New York Times” there can be further discussions with Ukraine, depending on the course.
But the Russian envoys can be conceived as a bare provocation. Kremlin Chief Putin does not send diplomats, but men of the secret service. A leader of the delegation is an old knowledge that had actually fallen out of favor with the Kremlin boss. FSBMan Sergej Besseda (70) was responsible for the intelligence preparation of the Ukraine attack.
His information in the Kremlin caused the misconception that Kiev could be taken “within three days”. A false information that Putin embarrassed worldwide. Besseda had to officially withdraw from his office within the FSB for “age reasons” and was briefly behind bars for a “questions”. The post gives little hope for a breakthrough. Besseda is an “experienced negotiator,” said presidential adviser Juri Uchakow.
KYIV sees conversations positive

Negotiations in Saudi Arabia must take potential steps to take a ceasefiring. The first measure is planned to do without attacks on energy systems, where Ukraine also wants to protect other infrastructure objects. This limited fire brigade was fundamental telephone between Kremlin Chief Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, but without details about the implementation. Finally, the two warring parties have covered with massive drone attacks.
According to the Ukrainian representation, Riad is initially involved in technical questions. There would be suggestions for the protection of energy systems and critical infrastructure on the agenda, Umjerow said. “Today we work through a number of complex technical questions- our delegation is from both energy experts and military representatives of the Navy and Air Force.” From a Russian perspective, Riyad is also about an initiative for safe shipping in the Black Sea, in the Chamber the American proposal for a fire brigade break for the water.
US represented with different teams in Riad
Senskyj wrote on X: “Our team is fully constructive and the discussion is very useful. The work of the delegations continues.” The Ukrainian president added: “But regardless of what we are talking to our partners, we must encourage Putin to arrange a stop of the attacks: whoever caused this war must end.”
US President Trump claims to end the war as quickly as possible. The chances were good, he said before the meetings. The American specialist Steve Witkoff, who had hit Putin in Moscow in recent weeks, said, “I have the feeling that he (Putin) wants peace.” The Kremlin, however, dampened expectations. Spokesperson Dmitri Peskow said: “We are only at the start of this path.”
